Rug Care

Use fabric protectors
We recommend that you treat all Eden Studio rugs with a fabric protector, especially the ones that are light-coloured. Fabric protectors help decrease the absorbency of rugs as well as protect the rugs against staining, sun-fading and increase their lifespan. Using a fabric protector doesn’t guarantee that your rug will never see a stain, but it can reduce the likelihood. We have been using MicroSeal as the suggested fabric protector for our rugs and carpets. MicroSeal is a non-toxic, non-allergenic surface protector that does not change the look and feel of the rug/carpet.

Vacuum
The most important step in proper maintenance is regular vacuuming. We recommend vacuuming your rug at least once a week (or more in heavy traffic areas), to remove excess soil and dirt and prevent undue build-up of material that could harm it.

Position the rug
Depending on the foot traffic, and if pattern allows it, rotate your rug regularly. Turn it around maybe once a year for even and balanced wear. Where possible, do not allow direct sunlight on your rugs and carpet. All fibers are subject to fade through time when exposed to UV light.

Attend to spills immediately
Don’t ignore spills as they can cause permanent damage to the rug or carpet. Stains can be easily prevented by acting quickly when spills occur. Scoop up solids first, blot up liquids (do not rub!) with paper towels or absorbent cloth. Apply warm water to the affected area and continue blotting until you can no longer see any staining.
If the stain does not disappear, follow the cleaning instructions below.

Cleaning Instructions
We recommend that your rug or carpet is always cleaned by professional carpet cleaners. Any chemicals or solution used to clean the carpet should be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions and should be tried in a test area prior to proceeding to all areas. Cleaning by hot water extraction (steam cleaning) can produce good results provided that it is carried out competently. We recommend this is carried out on Eden Studio rugs and carpet every 18 months.

For small spills, wool rug or carpet should be spot-cleaned using water and/or wool detergent and dried by using a fan blower. Small blow heaters on cool setting are effective. If a carpet is left wet then mould can form on the backing and a stain can appear on the carpet pile. For spills on wool rugs, lightly blot up liquids with paper towels or an absorbent cloth. Apply warm water to the affected area and continue blotting until you can no longer see any staining. If the stain persists, use a commercially available carpet cleaning or spot removal detergent suitable for wool rugs. Apply to the area, blot out, then apply warm water again and blot dry. Spot cleaning is not recommended where delicate fibers such as cotton, linen, nylon, silk or bamboo are present. It is recommended to consult professional cleaning services for a steam clean instead.
